This past weekend the girls and mentors of FIRST Robotics Team 1547 "Where's Waldo?" competed in their first Regional of 2015, the Greater Toronto Central at Ryerson University’s Mattamy Athletic Centre, previously the historic Maple Leaf Gardens. The Team worked tirelessly during the six-week build season to design, build and program a robot to perform in this year's game, Recycle Rush.

The Regional started with practice matches on Thursday with the Tech Team adding the final touches to Waldo XI, including adding on counter weight at the back of the robot to make sure it wouldn’t tip when lifting totes. The driver’s team was frustrated when the robot would not communicate wirelessly on the field during a practice match but with the help of volunteer experts, they were able to fix the bugs on the robot’s computer system. Despite the early issues faced, the Team had a functioning offensive robot. After the Qualifying Matches on Friday and Saturday, Waldo was in 30th place but was fortunate to be selected by the first seeded alliance, our friends, 1114 Simbotics and 610 The Coyotes, during the alliance selection. Our alliance stacked totes after totes advancing to the Finals as the proud Greater Toronto Central Regional Winners. This means that after four years of coming so close to qualifying for the World Championship “Where’s Waldo?” will finally get the chance to show the world that “Girls Do!” this April in St. Louis, MO.

Meanwhile, the Business Team was busy answering judges questions, cheering in the stands, and rehearsing for Chairman's. The Chairman's Team executed their presentation with poise and polish but was unfortunately beat out by an extremely accomplished team. Team 1547 will have another chance to present our Chairman’s at our second Regional in Chesapeake, MD Thursday, April 2 through Saturday, April 4 but is proud to add another Imagery Award to our growing collection; an award that celebrates a team's impressive marketing and branding.

Please help us get to get to the FIRST World Championships in St. Louis. Donate/sponsor through our school's annual fund, and choose "Robotics" as the direction of the funds. Every penny goes straight to the team. We thank you in advance for all the support. http://waldo.trafalgarcastle.ca/sponsorship/become_a_sponsor

Following Bag and Tag Day, the team is now preparing for our first regional competition at Ryerson University. The business team has been hard at work contacting sponsors, running various workshops through our local Brownie troops, and even travelling to our local library to teach our new Wally Engineers all about STEM. Come out and support Waldo on February 5th-7th at the Mattamy Athletic Centre at Ryerson University

Today was Bag and Tag Day, which means our robot has finally been completed, and Waldo XI is ready to compete. We'd like to give a special shoutout to our tech team members for their handwork and dedication these past 6 weeks.

Bright and early, on the last Saturday of our Christmas break, our entire team gathered together to watch the FRC Kickoff 2015. This was the announcement of the FRC game Recycle Rush, broadcasted live by NASA TV. After learning all the rules to the game, we started planning our robot for the 2015 season.
